Today I learned I need to capitalize the letter B when I say Black. And a reminder to white friends that when you enter a Black person’s social media space please do not DM them. They do not owe you a single thing. If you will not respect their space, don’t bother following them. If you have a question feel free to ask me in your own words. Commit to learning and listening with me. Show up and listen and read work by @lisasharper she has a live with @jenhatmaker happening on Monday. Follow @rachel.cargle and @thegreatunlearn for prompts to research and use google to dig in. Follow @beabridgebuilder for educational resources and a learning group. Follow @berniceaking daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for her important voice and work. Thank you to @oshetamoore for guiding White Peacemakers to do better. ⬛️ This is the work. Listen, because there are major gaps in our education and history. We must unlearn and relearn for ourselves, pay and uplift those who have created a wealth of materials for our learning and begin to step into uncomfortable conversations with fellow white people because it’s our responsibility. And be willing to fail and make mistakes but keep showing up. Learn how to spend your privilege and leverage your platform, your network and your relationships. I’m reminded of the phrase in @wrinkleintime movie that says “Love is the Frequency” it may be cloudy and ominous but hope abounds. And our love is not fragile. Love is not complicit. Love stands in the gap. Love shows up. @lyndseymedford reminded me that we cannot advocate and cry “non-violence” without first getting in the game and learning from the leaders of this movement. I recommend @lyndseymedford ‘a post yesterday. As she urged—listen to the leaders of the movement. It’s not a new movement. Keep going. Keep listening. Lives are on the line everyday. We cannot delay. Hold people in power accountable. Commit to an action step. If you’re willing please share what you’re committing to.
